Most sixes conceded in an IPL season by a single bowler
This article features the bowlers to concede the most number of sixes in a single IPL season
Being a bowler in one of the most competitive leagues in T20 cricket is not an easy job. On a bad day, even the best of the best get taken to the cleaners as T20 cricket has now become a batsman-dominated game. IPL 2022 saw a record-breaking 106 sixes be hit as compared to the previous best of 872 sixes in the 2018 edition. Here are 5 bowlers who have conceded the maximum number of sixes in a single season of the Indian Premier League.
1. Mohammed Siraj (RCB): 31 Sixes
Siraj was retained by the Royal Challengers Bangalore prior to the 2022 mega auction for the price of 7Cr. He had a dismal season in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League as he couldn’t do justice to his role and the price tag. He was unable to pick wickets as he picked only 9 of them in 15 games. Having bowled 51 overs, Siraj went for 31 maximums with a bowling economy rate of 10.08 thus topping the list for most sixes conceded by a single bowler in the history of the Indian Premier League
2. Wanindu Hasaranga (RCB) : 30 Sixes
This is the second name to feature on this list from the 2022 edition of the IPL, for the most sixes conceded in an IPL season by a single bowler. He was the second-highest wicket-taker in the 2022 edition of the IPL. Despite his economy of 7.54 showing a different story, Hasaranga conceded 30 sixes off the 57 overs he bowled. Owing to a higher dot ball percentage, the leggie managed to keep his economy in check even after conceding 30 maximums. Hasaranga had a good season for the Royal Challengers Bangalore as he scalped 26 wickets at a bowling average of 16.54.
3. Dwayne Bravo (CSK): 29 Sixes
Being the go-to death bowler for the Chennai Super Kings is a big responsibility and Bravo has more often than not delivered. But bowling in the death means getting hit for maximums and that’s what Dwayne Bravo had to face in the 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League. Bravo bowled with an economy of 9.96 which is a little expensive and got hit for 29 sixes in IPL 2018. He struck with 14 wickets that season but 2018 was a forgettable season for the veteran.
4. Yuzvendra Chahal (RCB) : 28 Sixes
The only bowler to make this list twice, Yuzvendra Chahal in 2015 was a relatively new bowler who hadn’t had much experience on his side. It is common for leg spinners to have a higher Balls per Six conceded ratio as we have seen with Hasaranga earlier too. Chahal got hit out of the park 28 times in the IPL 2015 where he bowled 46 overs and picked an impressive 24 wickets. He bowled with an economy of 8.86 and an average of 18.04, fairly decent stats for the wickets that the delivered while playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore
5. Yuzvendra Chahal (RR) : 27 Sixes
This is the third name to feature on this list from the 2022 edition of the IPL, for the most sixes conceded in an IPL season by a single bowler. Bagging the Purple Cap in 2022 with 17 scalps in 17 matches, Chahal was on fire in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League for his new team the Rajasthan Royals. Baggins Yuzvendra Chahal for 6.5 Cr in the IPL 2022 auctions was a steal for the Rajasthan Royals. Chahal was the lead strike bowler who bowled predominantly in the middle overs but also rolled his arm over occasionally in the batting powerplay and the death. He conceded 27 sixes yet kept his economy at 7.75, owing to his high dot ball percentage. He had a healthy bowling average of 19.52 and delivered when his team needed him to.
