April 2, 2011 is a date that no Indian cricket fan can ever forget. On that day, the Indian cricket team became the world champions by defeating the Sri Lankan cricket team in the final match of the 2011 Cricket World Cup Final, and Virat Kohli is one of the few players from that squad who is still playing actively in all formats of international cricket.
Kohli batted at number four for the Indian cricket team in the big game. However, he did not receive a loud cheering from the crowd which he usually does whenever he comes out to bat. The reason behind that was it was Sachin Tendulkar who played his career’s last knock in a World Cup match before Virat arrived in the middle.
India were in trouble when Kohli came out to bat because the team’s openers Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar were back in the hut without scoring big. Virat Kohli then stabilized the innings with Gautam Gambhir in the 2011 Cricket World Cup Final. He scored 35 runs and helped the Men in Blue reach a decent position.

Speaking to the official website of Royal Challengers Bangalore, Virat Kohli recalled his performance from the 2011 Cricket World Cup Final and said:
“35 in the 2011 World Cup final was the most valuable 35 I’ve scored in my cricketing career. I was happy to bring the team back on track and contribute in whatever way I could. The crowd atmosphere was surreal, it’s very fresh in our memories.”
After TM Dilshan dismissed Kohli caught and bowled, Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni changed the game with their partnership. Unfortunately, Gambhir lost his stumps just three runs short of his hundred. MS Dhoni finished things off in style with a six in the end.
