3 popular middle-order batters who could open the batting in IPL 2024

Sometimes, batters have to adapt according to the demands of the team in an IPL season. This could also help them on some occasions. Similarly, we can expect to notice some changes in IPL 2024. Here, we take a look at the list of three popular batters who could open the batting in IPL 2024.

1) Shreyas Iyer

KKR needs an Indian opener. The preference would be a wicket-keeper batter. However, there are not many options in the market right now. While Venkatesh Iyer is a good option to open the batting, the Madhya Pradesh all-rounder is inconsistent and could sometimes take a few balls to start scoring freely.

On the other hand, Iyer can be terrific in the powerplay. Since KKR has good players of spin in the form of Nitish Rana, Shreyas is not that much needed in the middle overs. Rinku Singh also has to arrive early to the crease. Keeping these factors in mind, Iyer might open the batting.

2) Kane Williamson

Kane Williamson is expected to operate at No.3 for GT. However, it won’t be a surprise if he gets to open the batting. Especially if Wriddhiman Saha is out of form, Kane can be the right option at the top with B Sai Sudharsan coming at No.3.

With Kane at one end, Gill will have less pressure, especially with Hardik Pandya also not around. Therefore, this could be a tactical move by the GT management.

3) Moeen Ali

Moeen Ali is one of the popular batters who could open the batting in IPL 2024. Devon Conway’s current form is not that great. However, knowing CSK and MS Dhoni, Conway might be backed until the end of the season even if he is not in great form.

That said, there will be a line when Conway might be dropped if he is seriously out of form. While Ajinkya Rahane could then come up the order, another option would be Moeen Ali. The Englishman is not getting consistent opportunities at the top of the order. His talent requires backing and it may not be a surprise if he opens the batting.
