The upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be important for a lot of players. Surprisingly, some of the experienced Australian cricketers will be playing their first Test in India in this series. The last two BGTs happened in Australia. Hence, these players have not had a chance to play a lot in India. On that note, here, we take a look at three Aussies who have played more than 30 Tests but will be playing the format for the first time in India in BGT 2023.
1) Usman Khawaja – 56 Tests
Although the southpaw has played more than 56 Tests, he is yet to play a Test in India, till now. The main reason has been his being in and out of the Australian setup.
Usman actually made his Test debut back in 2011. However, it is only recently that he cemented his spot in the Australian Test squad, although he has enjoyed such stints before. He did really well in Pakistan last year. Hence, the management will count on him to deliver this time, too.
2) Marnus Labuschagne – 33 Tests
Marnus Labuschagne is one of the Aussies who have played more than 30 Tests but will be playing the format for the first time in India in BGT 2023. The talented batter has been the No.1 in the ICC Test rankings but is yet to play in India.
The biggest challenge for Marnus will be in India. He will be up against the likes of R Ashwin and Axar Patel in this series. If he does well here, he further strengthens his name as an elite batter.
3) Travis Head – 33 Tests
It was in 2018 that Head made his Test debut. Hence, obviously, he is yet to play in India. That said, he will be an important part of the line-up in the upcoming assignment.
Head has struggled against spin before. Therefore, it will be a firm challenge for him against the solid spin attack of India. It needs to be seen if he would do well in this competition.
