Scoring a century in the Indian Premier League is not an easy task. The bowling quality in the IPL has improved in the last few seasons. Almost every team has at least three to four bowlers who play or are on the radar of their respective national teams. Yet, even after scoring a century, a player getting released is a shocker. Especially when it is not a mega-auction, this decision comes up as even more surprising. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of two players who scored a century in IPL 2023 but were still released.
1) Harry Brook – Sunrisers Hyderabad
Harry Brook was one of the big-money signings for SRH in IPL 2023 Auctions. The English batter struggled to adapt to the conditions in India. He had some failures in the middle-order before the management decided to use him as an opener. As an opener, too, he had a tough few games. However, he made a strong comeback with a splendid century.
After the century, though, Brook struggled again. Considering his salary and the fact that SRH has some good middle-order batters, he has been released before the auctions.
2) Cameron Green – Mumbai Indians (Traded to RCB)
Cameron Green is one of the players who scored a century in IPL 2023 but was still released. After Green’s performance for MI last season, many felt that he would play for MI for a very long time. Especially after his excellent century from a tough position, many saw the potential in Green.
However, MI was forced to release him. When Hardik Pandya is available, it would be difficult not to go for him. Funds were needed and Green would have no role if Pandya came to the side. Therefore, he was let go from the side. RCB took the opportunity to sign him on a trade deal.
