2 BCCI contracted players who might go unsold at IPL 2023 Auctions

IPL 2023 Auctions will happen on December 23rd in Kochi. In the past, capped Indian cricketers were highly rated. However, in recent years, franchises have applied more filters while picking players. If the cricketer is not in form and does not fit their combination, the teams will not pick the cricketer. This is even though the cricketer might be having a BCCI contract at that time. The same could happen at the upcoming bidding event. On that note, here, we take a look at two BCCI contracted players who might go unsold at IPL 2023 Auctions.

Note: Cheteshwar Pujara and Hanuma Vihari are not part of IPL 2023 Auctions.

1) Ajinkya Rahane

Kolkata Knight Riders had Ajinkya Rahane on the roster for IPL 2022. The Mumbai cricketer could not deliver for the franchise and later had to be dropped. Rahane is comfortable opening the batting in T20s and is known to make good use of the powerplay. The veteran failed in both these aspects last season.

Rahane has given himself a low base price of INR 50L. It seems he is desperate for a chance in the IPL. However, teams might might not consider the cricketer. Rahane seems outdated in the T20 format and his poor form in last IPL will also play a role. Unless a team like Chennai Super Kings or Mumbai Indians want to take him as a backup, it is difficult for Rahane to play in IPL 2023.

2) Ishant Sharma

Ishant Sharma is one of the BCCI contracted players who might go unsold at IPL 2023 Auctions. The tall pacer from Delhi is trying hard to make a comeback. Although T20 is not his forte, Ishant’s stint a few seasons ago with Delhi Capitals made him a decent pick in IPL.

However, at the moment, Ishant‘s form is not great. Teams would rather have players like Deepak Chahar or Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who often change the game in the powerplay. Ishant does not assure this and hence, there is not much on his side for him to make his case.
