
Scoring a century on debut is the ultimate dream for any batsman in international cricket. The cricket fraternity has witnessed several batters carving out a niche for themselves on their ODI debut.
Any batsman would tend to feel nervous in their first appearance in the 50-over format. The pressure is always there because the batter needs to score runs pretty quickly. However, some batters braved the challenges by batting confidently.
As many as 16 players went on to make their presence count on the pitch and scored a century on their debut. Let’s take a look at all of the players’ incredible achievements on their ODI debut.
1. Dennis Amiss
Dennis Amiss is the first player to score a 100 on his ODI debut. The former England player scored 103 off 134 balls (9 fours) against Australia in Manchester in 1972.
2. Desmond Haynes
The former West Indies cricketer scored 148 off 136 balls (16 fours, 2 sixes) against Australia in 1978 at St John’s.
3. Andy Flower
The former Zimbabwe cricketer scored an unbeaten 115* off 154 balls (8 fours, 1 six) against Sri Lanka at New Plymouth in 1992.
4. Saleem Elahi
The former Pakistani cricketer scored an unbeaten 102 off 133 balls (7 fours, 1 six) against Sri Lanka at Gujranwala in 1995.
5. Martin Guptill
New Zealand’s limited-overs opener scored an unbeaten 122* off 135 (8 fours, 2 sixes) against West Indies in Auckland in 2009.
6. Colin Ingram
Former South African cricketer scored 124 off 126 (8 fours, 2 sixes) against Zimbabwe at Bolomfontein in 2010.
7. Rob Nicol
Former New Zealand cricketer scored 108* off 131 (11 fours) against Zimbabwe at Harare in 2011.
8. Phil Hughes
Former Australian cricketer scored 112 off 129 (14 fours) against Sri Lanka in Melbourne in 2013.
9. Michael Lumb
Former England cricketer chipped in with 106 off 117 (7 fours, 2 sixes) against West Indies at North Sound in 2014.
10. Mark Chapman
Former Hong Kong cricketer scored 124* off 16 (11 fours, 2 sixes) against U.A.E in Dubai in 2015.
11. KL Rahul
Indian cricketer KL Rahul scored 100* off 115 (7 fours, 1 six) against Zimbabwe at Harare in 2016.
12. Temba Bavuma
South African cricketer, Bavuma chipped in with 113 against Ireland at Benoni in 2016.
13. Imam-ul-Haq
Pakistan cricketer aggregated 100 runs against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi in 2017.
14. Reeza Hendricks
Proteas cricketer Hendricks scored 102 against Sri Lanka in Pallekele in 2018.
15. Abid Ali
