“Yuvraj Singh wanted us to travel 160 km from Dambulla to Colombo on bicycle,” reveals Virat Kohli

Yuvraj Singh is celebrating his 40th birthday today

The former Indian captain Virat Kohli has posted a video message for his old teammate Yuvraj Singh, who is celebrating his 40th birthday today. Virat shared a couple of stories of the time when he was first included in the Indian limited-overs side back in 2008.

Recalling the old days, Virat thanked Yuvraj for being one of those senior guys in the Indian dressing room who made him feel very welcomed and helped him be comfortable in the new set-up straightaway. Speaking further, Virat said he bonds well with Yuvraj because both of them have almost similar backgrounds.

They are Punjabis and almost have the same likings in terms of their clothing brands and shoes, which is also the reason why when they were together on tours, they used to shop a lot. Virat also shared a funny story involving Yuvraj Singh and the other Indian players on a Sri Lanka tour in the past.

Yuvraj Singh was the vice-captain of India on the tour of Sri Lanka in 2008

It was one of those tours which Virat was on in the initial years of his career when he was a junior player and Yuvraj was already established as one of the stalwarts of the game. The Indian team had to play a game in Dambulla and Virat revealed that Yuvraj wanted the Indian players to travel 160 km from Dambulla to Colombo on a bicycle.

According to Virat, when Yuvraj floated that idea to the Indian players, some of them actually fell off their chairs laughing because it was such a crazy idea 48 hours before the game in a foreign country.

Most likely, Virat was talking about the tour of Sri Lanka in 2008 where Virat Sehwag had injured himself and Virat had got the opportunity to make his debut in One Day International cricket for India as an opener. Although Virat got only one fifty in 5 games on the tour, he was never dropped from the Indian ODI team after that.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
