Ravindra Jadeja was one of the cricketers that Shane Warne rated very highly and he rated him at a time when the southpaw was very young and had not even burst onto the international scene. Rajasthan Royals had picked Jadeja from the U19 players’ draft ahead of the first season of the IPL and Warne was so impressed with what he saw in Jadeja at 19 years of age that he named him “Rockstar”.
Jadeja didn’t get the opportunity to bowl a lot in the first season of IPL, but Warne talked to a lot of people in the Indian cricketing circles about Jadeja’s overall capability as a cricketer and how he thought the allrounder could serve Indian cricket for a long, long time. Warne’s prediction about Jadeja turned out to be absolutely correct, as Jadeja didn’t just go on to represent India, he became one of the best all-rounders in the world.
Ravindra Jadeja gives the Indian team the much needed balance at no. 7
Ravindra Jadeja, at this point of time, is one of India’s most important players across all three formats of the game and it’s his presence in the XI which gives India the much needed balance. Jadeja’s worth as a cricketer was on display in Mohali once again in the first test match against Sri Lanka where he scored a magnificent hundred for India batting lower down the order at no. 7.
The left hander was happy playing the second fiddle to Rishabh Pant when Pant was going great guns yesterday, but today Jadeja came into his own and got to the three figure mark with ease with a flurry of shots on the off side. As Jadeja completed his hundred, his former IPL team Rajasthan Royals posted a tweet telling Jadeja that he has made his former captain Shane Warne very proud. Jadeja will have a big role to play for India with the ball as well later on day 2 and day 3 of the ongoing Mohali test match.
100* off 160. Rockstar Jadeja. You’ve made him proud. ❤️
