The final of the Asia Cup 2022 took place between Sri Lanka and Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday (11th September). Sri Lanka thumps Pakistan by 23 runs to claim the Asia Cup 2022

It wasn’t a good start to the final from Sri Lanka as they lost the toss and were put to bat first. Many didn’t give them the chance to win considering the track record of chasing at the venue. To worsen things more they had the worse possible start as they lost half of their side for just 58 runs inside the 10 overs.

It almost seemed that Sri Lanka would struggle to score even 100 runs but Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Wanindu Hasaranga took matters into their own hands and counter-attacked the bowlers for their 58 runs partnership. While the all-rounder was back in the hut after scoring 36 runs, the southpaw continued his carnage and smashed unbeaten 71 runs in 43 balls to take his side to a total of 170 runs.

Chasing the target, Pakistan had a decent start but they lost skipper Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman in the 4th over to put themselves under pressure. Mohammad Rizwan (55) and Iftikhar Ahmed (32) steadied the innings and stitched 71 runs partnership. But after that Pakistan suffered a collapse and lost wickets in clusters.

Hasaranga turned the game for him as he took three wickets in the over to dent Pakistan’s chances of winning the game. He returned with the figures of 3/27 and helped his side bundle out the opposition for just 147 runs to win their sixth Asia Cup. Pramod Madhushan was the pick of bowlers as he took 4 wickets in his side’s victory.
