Wanindu Hasaranga was the Player of the Match in Royal Challengers Bangalore‘s three-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders. One thing that stood out, apart from his bowling, was the Sri Lankan all-rounder’s celebration after taking a wicket. In this article, we take a look at the snippets of a recent interview in which Wanindu Hasaranga reveals the meaning behind his trademark celebration.
Hasaranga reveals the meaning behind his trademark celebration
Wanindu Hasaranga took four wickets against KKR and every time, he came up with a celebration. Murali Karthik asked about this in the post-match interview and the Sri Lankan replied, “My favourite footballer is Neymar and that is his celebration which I do.” Interestingly, another member from RCB, Mohammed Siraj also does a celebration of a footballer – the SUIII celebration by Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Sri Lankan all-rounder was the Player of the Match against KKR
In the first game against Punjab Kings, the RCB bowlers conceded 208 runs. Hence, they were under pressure to deliver against Kolkata Knight Riders, who had won their first encounter. Wanindu Hasaranga, who was one of the top purchases by RCB at IPL 2022 Mega-Auctions, had a forgettable outing against PBKS and hence, he needed a strong comeback, as well.
The Sri Lankan all-rounder did just that, collecting four wickets and giving away just 20 runs in his quota of four overs. Hasaranga’s wickets included the important ones of Shreyas Iyer, Sunil Narine, Sheldon Jackson and Tim Southee. RCB was able to bowl out KKR for 128 and this helped them chase the target despite a poor start.
For his exceptional bowling performance, Wanindu Hasaranga was named the Player of the Match. Having gained momentum, the player will be keen to replicate his performance in future games. He is the team’s lead spinner and RCB will want him to keep firing. RCB will next face Rajasthan Royals on 5th April.
