Virat Kohli is on the verge of losing ODI captaincy

Virat Kohli & Co. are on the brink of elimination from the T20 World Cup 2021. After losing the opening game against arch-rivals Pakistan, they suffered a crushing defeat against Kane Williamson-led New Zealand. India’s chances to play in the semi-finals don’t look too bright & now it will be impinged by external factors too.

Things are also not looking as bright for skipper Virat Kohli either. He already announced his resignation from the T20 captaincy before the beginning of the ongoing World Cup. Kohli was expected to leave the captaincy on a high note by winning the biennial extravaganza. Nonetheless, looking at the current situation, the semi-final look seems a million-miles far cry.

Now there are new speculations that Virat Kohli might end up losing his ODI captaincy as well. As per the reports of PTI, BCCI is planning to discuss Kohli’s captaincy for ODI in the future.

Authorities have already expressed their intent to have one white ball captain rather than two captains for different formats.

As per the schedule of the Indian cricket team, they only have three ODIs against West Indies at the home ground in February. Hence, it doesn’t make sense to have two different captains for such a short period. BCCI is also looking for a two-year plan for the 50 overs World Cup in 2023.

Rohit Sharma might be the new skipper after Virat Kohli to lead India in T20s

Rohit Sharma might be the new skipper after Virat Kohli to lead India in T20s as the scales are heavily tipped in his favour. Just after the T20 World Cup, India will be meeting New Zealand for three T20s & 2 Test matches.

Speculations suggest that Rohit Sharma will be leading team India for the T20s. BCCI will be discussing the same in the upcoming meetings. India is also scheduled to tour South Africa for three tests, three ODIs & 4 T20s in January. Keeping this in mind, BCCI will be considering their pick for captaincy, and they would like to keep things as simple as it can be.

As of now, Rohit Sharma is the only contender who can be considered for the job. He has proven his credentials in the past & especially in the T20 format in IPL. It is believed that the transition must be smooth for Rohit. However, looking at the current scenario, Virat Kohli’s days as short format captain are numbered & team India is all set to go into a big change after the T20 World Cup with rumours involving KL Rahul doing the rounds too.
