‘The role of KL Rahul in the innings is to serve as an anchor’-Mohammad Kaif feels that KL Rahul does not need to change his way of playing

Mohammad Kaif, a former cricket player, said that Team India opener KL Rahul does not have to attack straight away in Twenty20 cricket since his position in the team is that of an anchor.

In an interview with Sportskeeda that took place on Saturday, he explained how top-order batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have worked to collect runs faster at the beginning of the match so that Rahul is free to play his own game. Given that the player can switch gears throughout the death overs, he recommended that the player’s purpose is to bat till the very end.

What did Mohammad Kaif say about KL Rahul?

Kaif elucidated, saying: “The role of KL Rahul in the innings is to serve as an anchor. When Rohit Sharma opens alongside Rahul, Sharma aims to play his strokes as soon as possible since he is aware that his goal is to speed up the run rate, whilst Rahul’s responsibility is to maintain his position till the conclusion of the innings. To give Rahul more time to play his game, Rohit is trying to score as fast as possible. Even Virat Kohli has been contributing to the team’s scoring at a rapid pace. Rahul is aware that he typically maintains a strike rate of 120 when he bats and saves his aggressive play for the last five overs of an innings. The Indian team has stated that they have no intention of changing Rahul’s role.”

The former India batter continued by saying that despite Rahul’s recent setbacks, he does not need to make too many adjustments to the way he plays the game. He believed that all the right-handed batter needed to do was take a few extra chances to hit for the boundary in the power play.

During the current Asia Cup 2022, Rahul has had a difficult time getting his game going. In the match against Pakistan, he was out without scoring, but in the match after that, against Hong Kong, he scored 36 runs off of 39 deliveries.

Many people were disappointed with the 30-year-old player’s strike rate of 92.30 in the match, and he received criticism for it. He will be eager to make amends by delivering a performance at the Super 4 stage of the continental championship that leaves a lasting impression.
