‘I never used a bowling machine to get better at those shots’-Suryakumar Yadav reveals how he learned all his unconventional shots

Suryakumar Yadav believes that the large grounds in Australia will provide the greatest challenge for him in the 2022 World Twenty20, even though he is certain that the wickets in Australia would be quite fast. The batsman went on to elaborate on the origins of his unconventional style of play as well as his strategy for batting in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).

As a result of his consistently outstanding performances in the Indian Premier League season after season, Suryakumar Yadav has established himself as India’s best batsman in the shortest format of the game. Yadav has been instrumental in his team, the Mumbai Indians, winning the tournament on multiple occasions. The unorthodox batting technique and aggressive instinct of the 32-year-old have swiftly won him a place in the hearts of fans all around the globe.

Given his ability to hammer shots to all parts of the ground, several cricketing giants from the past have gone so far as to suggest that he is the finest T20I batter there is at this time.

What did Suryakumar Yadav say?

During an interview with the Times of India, the top-order batsman admitted that the fundamentals of his game stem from back in the days when cricket was played with rubber balls.

“I played a lot of rubber ball cricket on hard cement open spaces in my colony. One side of the boundary used to be 90–95 meters long, while the other side was 45 meters long. Seeing how big the ground was helped me learn all those scoops, upper cuts, and flicks. I never used a bowling machine to get better at those shots. All of it is in my muscle memory, and it shows up in games,” said Suryakumar Yadav.
