“Something to cherish on the last day atleast”, Twitter Reacts as ICC will be celebrating Rohit Sharma today in their “Legends of the month” special

In the cricketing community, Rohit Sharma has a reputation for being one of the most laid-back players. The Indian Cricket Team’s new skipper presided over a successful tenure as captain of the Mumbai Indians.

After the 35-year-old was named national captain, taking over for Virat Kohli, he naturally became the centre of attention.

Three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) between India and Sri Lanka are scheduled to begin on January 3. From what can be gathered at this moment, Kohli and Rahul have been benched for that series, while Rohit is still nursing a finger injury he got three weeks ago in Bangladesh, so he likely won’t play.

Indian cricket has had a dramatic year. Even while the Asian heavyweights have maintained their dominance in bilateral cricket, particularly at home, they have been unable to win any big prizes.

There were high hopes for Rohit Sharma when he took over as T20I captain and then ODI skipper, given his track record as a white-ball leader in the Indian Premier League and as India’s stand-in captain, during which time the team won both the Asia Cup and the tri-series in Sri Lanka in 2018.

When Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid teamed up, fans were hopeful for a new direction in white-ball cricket. Early results were encouraging as India swept a T20I series at home against New Zealand, the runner-up in the T20 World Cup 2021.

Then, not long after, Rohit Sharma’sfitness issues came to light. The Mumbai batter, who had opened the batting in the longest version of the game in 2019, was sidelined with a hamstring injury during the crucial tour of South Africa. Unfortunately for India, Rohit was unable to make his first trip abroad as a permanent ODI skipper because of an injury, and KL Rahul led the team to a 3-0 whitewash in the three-game ODI series.

ICC has announced that they will be celebrating Rohit Sharma today in their “Legends of the month” special.
