‘It’s Not Common’-Rashid Latif Talks About The Competition For The Wicket-Keeper Spot In The Indian Team

The competition for the opening position in Twenty20 Internationals has moved its emphasis to the wicketkeeper position for India’s team for the Twenty20 World Cup in 2022, where there are as many as five potential candidates. Three of them were selected for the team that is playing in the series in South Africa, while another combination of three were selected for the team that would visit Ireland. But which of these individuals will earn a spot in the starting eleven for the two-game series that will take place later this month?

Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant, and Dinesh Karthik were chosen to represent India in the ongoing five-match home series against the Proteas. Although Pant was the first choice for the position of wicketkeeper, both Ishan and Karthik found themselves in the playing XI at some point throughout the match, with the latter having a more successful performance at the batting position.

Pant did not go with the India team to Ireland since it was determined that the kid needed more time to prepare for the upcoming trip to England. Although Ishan and Karthik are still in the running, the selectors have decided to go with Sanju Samson in his stead.

Ishan will most likely return to his position as an opening batsman, while Rashid Latif, a former captain of Pakistan, speculates on who of Karthik and Samson will earn a spot in the XI as the wicketkeeper-batting option.

Rashid Latif talks about the wicket-keepers in the Indian Cricket Team

Rashid praised Karthik for his amazing stats down the order as he was speaking on the YouTube channel Caught Behind. According to Rashid, this kind of performance from a wicketkeeper in Twenty20 cricket is quite uncommon. As a result, he supported the 36-year-old candidate for the job.

  1. “At the present, wicketkeepers are putting up strong performances all around the globe in cricket. Samson has been putting up impressive numbers, but he bats at the top of the order. On the other hand, Dinesh Karthik is one of your possibilities while batting in the lower middle order. The figures that he has obtained make him an ideal candidate for inclusion in the playing XI. It’s not that common. And he demonstrated that when playing for RCB by batting with the best strike rate down the order in those contests. In the T20s, wicketkeepers that are capable of doing it are very uncommon to find. Karthik would be the player I would choose to play in the eleven,” Rashid Latif said.

In addition to the four players stated above, India also has a part-time option in KL Rahul, who has been sidelined due to an injury and is not part of the team in either of the series.
