3 International cricket world records Virat Kohli might break in 2023

Virat Kohli is arguably the best batter that this generation has seen. After a long barren run, he finally found some form in 2022. That said, when it comes to records, Virat might have to reset his targets. He can aim a few and get it cleared this year. On that note, here, we take a look at three International cricket world records Virat Kohli might break in 2023.

1) Most ODI hundreds – 49 (Sachin Tendulkar)

Virat Kohli recently hit a century to make it 44 in his ODI career. If there is one big record that he would want to establish in his career, that would be making 50 centuries in ODI cricket. In the process, he would also overtake Sachin’s feat.

With this record, Virat would etch his name forever as one of the greatest ODI batters. It might take, at least, a decade for anyone to break this record. Since India will play a lot of ODIs in 2023, if Virat finds form, he can surely make six more centuries.

2) Fastest to 13000 ODI runs – 321 Innings (Sachin Tendulkar)

From the 8000 to the 12000 run-mark in ODIs, Virat Kohli was the first to achieve it. Only four batters have made more than 13000 ODI runs. Out of this, Sachin reached the milestone fastest in 321 innings.

Currently, Virat Kohli sits at 12471 runs in 256 innings. It is almost inevitable that he would break the record by Sachin Tendulkar. It could happen in 2023, too. Hence, this is one of the International cricket world records Virat Kohli might break this year.

3) Most Player of Series Awards (Combined across formats) – 20 (Sachin Tendulkar)

Of course, Virat Kohli has got the advantage of having played a lot of short tournaments to claim this record. Nevertheless, it is a brilliant achievement to be adjusted as the best player of the entire series close to 20 times.

Virat Kohli currently has 19 Man of the Series Awards. He has got 3, 9 and 7 awards in Test, ODI and T20I tournaments respectively. Sachin had claimed 5 and 15 awards in Tests and ODIs respectively. Virat will play a lot of tournaments in 2023. Hence, this record will be easy for him to break.
