Suresh Raina is one of the panel experts for the IPL 2023 Auctions. Hence, he has been actively making comments about the auction and likely destinations of some popular players. He also made a prediction about the future skipper of Chennai Super Kings. Here, we take a look as Suresh Raina predicts the future captain of CSK.
The future captain of CSK
It is clear that MS Dhoni is in probably the last year of his playing career. Since the Ravindra Jadeja experiment as the skipper failed last season, the franchise will have to explore options elsewhere. It is a tough job as most of the probable candidates are already at other franchises.
Nevertheless, CSK does have a few names in the current squad itself. At the top of the list is Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has the experience of leading Maharashtra in domestic cricket. Interestingly, Suresh Raina recently proposed another name to this list. The name is none other than English all-rounder Sam Curran.

Although Curran has the potential, he is still raw to become a captain. That said, franchises have taken such a risk before and CSK must take one in the upcoming seasons.
CSK could struggle to hire Sam Curran
Before this, though, the franchise must first have to hire Curran in IPL 2023 Auctions. After the retirement of Dwayne Bravo, CSK needs an all-rounder to replace him. Curran is the best bet to replace the West Indian.
However, when it comes to the purse, CSK stands below teams such as Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad. PBKS and SRH would also do with a player like Curran in their ranks. Therefore, CSK might struggle to land the English youngster. If they have decided to spend the entire purse on him, though, Curran back to CSK cannot be ruled out. This move would surely break many auction records in that case.
