Most ducks in a Match in the history of IPL.

IPL 2020 has been a great tournament so far but we still have a couple of matches to go. Mumbai Indians have stormed into their sixth final whereas one of Sunrisers Hyderabad or Delhi Capitals will face them on the 10th of November. It was another great season where a number of new records were set and old records were broken. Over the years we have seen that a lot of records are broken in one IPL season. One of those records which the batsmen would hate to see but the bowlers won’t mind is the number of ducks in one IPL match. What is the most number of batsmen who have been dismissed on a duck in one IPL game? Let’s have a look at the top four instances with the most number of ducks in an IPL match.

4. Delhi Capitals vs Kings XI Punjab – 6 ducks in 2019

Delhi Capitals were up against Kings XI Punjab in a league stage game in 2019. KXIP had batted first and posted 166-9 in which Mohammad Shami got run out for a duck. Chasing 167, DC was in a comfortable position even though Prithvi Shaw had got out for a golden duck and then Rishabh Pant got out with the score reading 144-4. After Pant’s wicket, there was a huge collapse as DC lost 7 wickets for 8 runs which included four players getting out for a duck – Chris Morris, Harshal Patel, Kagiso Rabada, and Sandeep Lamichanne. Sam Curran who was playing his first IPL got a hat-trick and DC lost a game which they should have won.

3. Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings – 6 ducks in 2013

Mumbai Indians were up against Chennai Super Kings in the 2013 IPL Final and it is one of the most bizarre finals you would ever see. Everybody knows that MI won the 2013 IPL but what happened in that game is very interesting. MI was batting first and Aditya Tare was dismissed for a golden duck. Later on, in the innings, Lasith Malinga as well got out for a duck. In the second innings, chasing 149, CSK had a nightmare as Suresh Raina and Subramaniam Badrinath were gone for a duck. Even Ravindra Jadeja and Chris Morris were dismissed for a duck which took the match tally to six. MI won the game and the IPL trophy by 23 runs.

2. Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals – 6 ducks in 2020

In the recently concluded Qualifier 1, six batsmen were dismissed on 0. It all started with the MI skipper as Rohit Sharma got out for a duck. Kieron Pollard who was in good form got out while trying a big shot and couldn’t score any. In the DC innings, it was a hat-trick of ducks as Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane, and Shikhar Dhawan all were dismissed without troubling the scorers. The scoreboard was 0-3 at one point. Later on, even Daniel Sams was out for a duck which took the tally to six in the match. MI won the game pretty easily and stormed into the Final.

1. Deccan Chargers vs Kochi Tuskers Kerala – 7 ducks in 2011

Both the teams which don’t exist anymore – Deccan Chargers and Kochi Tuskers Kerala were up against each other in a league match in 2011. DC batted first and put up a below-par total of 129/7 in which Amit Mishra was run out for a duck. Dale Steyn who was with Deccan Chargers got the first wicket of Brendon McCullum for a duck and then what followed was a stunning spell of seam and swing bowling from Ishant Sharma. No batsmen could play Ishant Sharma was they were either getting bowled or caught behind. He dismissed the likes of Parthiv Patel, Raiphi Gomez, Brad Hodge, and Kedar Jadhav for a duck. Later on, Dale Steyn came back to knock the poles of RP Singh for another duck which meant seven batsmen were dismissed without troubling the scorers. DC defended 129 and won by 55 runs.
