A fire broke out in the Dubai International Stadium ahead of the match between India and Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2022

On Thursday, September 8, hours before India and Afghanistan were scheduled to play in the Asia Cup 2022 Super 4 match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, a massive fire broke out in a structure that was located near the access gate of the stadium. As supporters were making their way into the site for the dead rubber, they could see fumes from inside the stadium where the event was being held.

The fire started in a temporary office located outside the well-known cricket stadium, but it was brought under control in a matter of minutes. As the broadcasters and the teams continued their pre-match procedures in Dubai, no delay was noted by anybody.

Both India and Afghanistan have been eliminated from contention for a spot in the championship game of the Asia Cup 2022. The teams who finish third and fourth in the Super 4 stage will be determined by the match on Thursday. Both Pakistan and Sri Lanka have earned spots in the championship match, which will take place in Dubai on September 11.

Following victories against Hong Kong and Pakistan, India finished atop Group A, however in the Super 4 stage, they were defeated by Pakistan by 5 wickets and by Sri Lanka by 6 wickets, respectively. The success of Afghanistan in their match against Pakistan in Sharjah on Wednesday was crucial for India’s chances of winning the tournament. However, Mohammad Nabi’s side was defeated by Babar Azam’s squad by one wicket in a nail-biting last over.

The incident occurred, according to the accounts, prior to either of the teams arriving at the premises where it took place. In addition, there have been no reports of any casualties up to this point. It has also been stated that the fire started somewhere other than in the confines of the venue itself, with a structure close to the stadium being the one to catch fire. At this point, it is not possible to determine what caused the fire. Outside of the arena, there was a massive cloud of smoke could be seen.
