“That was ‘cold’ from Captain Cool”, Twitter stunned as MS Dhoni gave some tough love to his bowlers

MS Dhoni talked about what can be the potential consequences of his bowlers bowling those additional wides and no balls

The Chennai Super Kings defeated the Lucknow Super Giants by 12 runs at the M A Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. In response to MS Dhoni and his side’s mammoth total of 217/7, the Lucknow based side managed to end up with 205/7.

Any winning captain is expected to be happy with his team’s performance. But not MS Dhoni. He expressed his dismay over his bowlers’ undisciplined bowling. The CSK bowling lineup led by Deepak Chahar gave away 13 wides and 3 no balls which could have proven costly as despite posting a huge total, the margin of victory was slim.

He did not mince words while issuing a stern warning to his bowlers. “They’ll have to bowl no no-balls and less wides. We are bowling too many extra deliveries and need to cut them out otherwise they’ll be playing under a new captain,” Dhoni said at the post-match presentation.

Batting first, Super Kings rode brilliant knocks by Ruturaj Gaikwad (57), Devon Conway (47) and Ambati Rayudu (27) to reach 217. For the Lucknow based side, the response was led by Kyle Mayers who scored a quick fire 53 of 22 balls and Nicholas Pooran (32 of 18).  Moeen Ali starred with the ball for the home side as he scalped 4 wickets to restrict Lucknow Super Giants and help CSK win the first home game of the season.

Speaking on the game, Dhoni said, “It was a terrific game, high-scoring game. All of us were thinking how the wicket will be. We had that doubt. It was a high-scoring game. Overall I think it was a perfect first game that happened and it was a full house for the first game in 5 or 6 years since we’ve been here. I thought it will be much slower. It was a wicket where you could score runs but overall it got a bit slower. We’ll have to see how it plays over the next six games at home but hopefully we can score here”.

Another possible allusion that Dhoni may have made was that due to slow over rates, the captain is being fined 20 percent of his match fee for the first two games and then given a one-match ban. So you never know, actually.

Now that the Captain ‘Cool’ has issued a warning, the Chennai bowlers will have to improve and stop the flow of no-balls and wides as they won’t be defending huge totals in every match.
