Ricky Ponting predicts India will be one of the two finalists in T20 World Cup 2022, but won’t win the title

Ricky Ponting is one of the only two captains in the history of the game who has won two ODI World Cups

The two-time ODI World Cup winning captain and the current Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting has predicted that the Indian cricket team will be able to get to the final of the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia, but they might not win the title.

According to Ricky Ponting, who was speaking on The ICC Review, apart from India, the other team which has a very high chance of reaching the final of the tournament in Australia because they will be playing in their home conditions and will be very aware of the nature of the pitches.

Ponting said when the Australian team had toured UAE for the last T20 World Cup, he didn’t have high expectations from them because he knew the wickets were going to be slow, particularly with the fact that the second half of IPL 2021 was already held at the same venues of UAE before the World Cup started.

However, despite the conditions not in their favor, the Australian team found a way to UAE. If they found a way in alien conditions, they are more than likely to find a way to win the tournament again on their home turf.

England might become an obstruction for Australia and India: Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting, however, warned Australia and India that England is another team that has got a lot of talent and if there is one team that can become an obstruction for Australia and India in the tournament, it’s England because they are a very strong unit when it comes to white ball cricket.

Ponting doesn’t see Pakistan going all the way in the tournament and winning the title. The former Australian skipper is of the view that unless and until Pakistan’s premier batsman and their captain Babar Azam has a great tournament, it would be difficult for Pakistan to fare well on the Australian turf.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
