“It’s following World Cup 2011”, Twitter user reveals a reason why the current T20 World cup is similar to the 2011 ODI World cup

India came into this world cup on the back of a group-stage exit in the last year’s T20 World Cup. After that, a lot of things happened. Virat Kohli stepped down and the whole team management changed. The new skipper, Rohit Sharma and the new Head Coach Rahul Dravid laid down a new approach for this year’s T20 World Cup 2022. India started off the group stage with a thrilling win against Pakistan in the opening game. Then they beat the Netherlands in the second game. However, they lost in the third match against South Africa in Perth.

Today, at the Adelaide Oval, Rohit Sharma’s Men In Blue registered a five runs victory against the Bangladeshi Tigers in a rain-curtailed match. Indian fans have been comparing this year’s campaign with what happened during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. There also, India lost just one game and that was against South Africa.

India fan draws similarities with the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 in India

The Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, and wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik have not been performing with the bat so far in the tournament. Karthik has been chosen as the finisher ahead of Rishabh Pant in the playing XI.

One Indian fan drew parallels with the out-of-form MS Dhoni of the 2011 Cricket World Cup. In that tournament, the captain and the wicket-keeper batsman, Dhoni, did not score runs throughout the whole tournament, only to play a match-winning inning in the final. That turned out to be a sensational inning.

The fan said that there are similarities in this aspect as well, as the captain Rohit Sharma and the wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik aren’t performing the group stages. The only difference is that this year, there are two different players for two different roles and not one player who occupied both roles in the 2011 World Cup.
