India clinches thriller against Pakistan by 5 wickets

The game between India and Pakistan went down the wire and it saw both teams fighting till the very end and leaving no stone unturned to put pressure on each other.

It was a game that saw bowlers of both sides doing the damage and making batters clueless. But one man who stood out was Virat Kohli, who almost single-handedly won the game for his side with his unbeaten knock of 82 runs.

After India restricted Pakistan to a total of 159 runs, they struggled to get going and were left tottering at 31/4. But Kohli along with Hardik Pandya (40) kept his side in the hunt and played sensibly to take the game deep.

The game went down to the last over, which was dramatic and saw many things happening in it. The no-ball saga, free-hit saga and the last-ball drama, all was witnessed in Mohammad Nawaz’s 20th over.

With 16 runs needed off the last over, Pandya perished on the first ball and Dinesh Karthik too followed him on the penultimate ball. But thanks to Virat Kohli’s six that India still was in a game.

With 2 runs needed off the last ball, R Ashwin, who came to bat after Karthik’s wicket, showed great presence of mind and left the ball, which was sliding down the leg side. He then played chipped the ball over long off and won the game for his side.

The only thing I would’ve done had that Nawaz ball hit my pad was to go back in the dressing room, pick my Twitter and tweet ‘Thanks a lot,” says R Ashwin

After the match, R Ashwin opened up about what he went through when he was in the middle during the game against Pakistan. Speaking in a video posted on his YouTube channel, he said:

“The only thing I would’ve done had that Nawaz ball hit my pad was to go back in the dressing room, pick my Twitter and tweet ‘Thanks alot, it was a wonderful cricketing career (laughs)'”.

R Ashwin will next seen in action when India will play the Netherlands in their second game of the tournament on Thursday (27th October).
