“India going to win 2031 WC under Gill captaincy”, Twitter reacts as India and Bangladesh will be hosting the 2031 ODI World Cup

ICC has announced its schedule for a number of its upcoming major events and there is good news for Indian fans. Besides hosting the 2023 ODI World Cup, India will also host the Champions Trophy in 2029. It will be the perfect opportunity for the Blues to set their hands on the prestigious trophy that they came very close to winning in 2017 but were beaten by arch-rivals Pakistan in the final. Not only that, but India will also be hosting the 2026 T20 World Cup jointly with Sri Lanka and the 2031 ODI World Cup jointly with Bangladesh. As we can clearly see, India is slowly transforming into the cricketing hub of the world.

Here is a list of all the upcoming ICC events and their hosts:

  1. T20 World Cup 2024 – West Indies and USA
  2. Champions Trophy 2025 – Pakistan
  3. T20 World Cup 2026 – India and Sri Lanka
  4. ODI World Cup 2027 – South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia
  5. T20 World Cup 2028 – Australia and New Zealand
  6. Champions Trophy 2029 – India
  7. T20 World Cup 2030 – England, Wales, Ireland & Scotland
  8. ODI World Cup 2031 – India and Bangladesh.

One big noticeable problem in this list is the 2025 Champions Trophy. The tournament will be hosted by defending Champions Pakistan and given the political tensions between them and India, team India will be the biggest sufferer. If they decide to pull out of the competition, they might have to face consequences. On the other hand, if they decide to go through it, the safety of the players will have to be thought about. It is thus a very sensitive situation.

Team India should start preparing for the 2023 World Cup now as that is all that matters now. This is India’s best shot at winning the trophy once again and they must make good use of it.
