Former South African cricket team fast bowler Dale Steyn recently revealed the origin of his famous chainsaw celebration. The right-arm fast bowler would dismiss the batters and then take out the saw and celebrate in his trademark manner. After his retirement, Steyn has taken up the coaching role now in IPL 2022.
In a pre-match interview ahead of the match between the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Dale Steyn noted how the likes of Anrich Nortje, Adam Zampa and Umran Malik have used that celebration. During that chat, Steyn also revealed that he picked it up from Brett Lee.
Here’s what Steyn was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda:
“I think that’s what I’m coaching these days. Even Adam Zampa does a great one for a spin bowler. Even Umran Malik is putting it up and I’ve kinda convinced Marco Jansen that if he gets a game, he’s got to do one. I think I picked it up from Brett Lee, so long may that continue.”
Dale Steyn has done a good job in grooming Umran Malik during IPL 2022 stint
The Sunrisers Hyderabad have assembled a strong bowling attack for the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. They have the likes of T Natarajan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Marco Jansen, Sean Abbott, Fazalhaq Farooqi, and Kartik Tyagi, but the X-factor of this lineup has been Umran Malik.
Umran has bowled at a pace of 150 kmph consistently. He bowled a terrific spell against the Gujarat Titans, where he picked up a five-wicket haul albeit in a losing cause. Malik has also celebrated in the chainsaw style, and it will be interesting to see if Marco Jansen does the same whenever he plays for the Sunrisers Hyderabad or South Africa.
As far as the Sunrisers are concerned, their chances of playoffs qualification have reduced after the defeat against RCB.
