“I don’t see any bowlers in Sri Lanka as well” Bangladesh’s team director reacts to Dasun Shanaka’s controversial statement

Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will lock horns with each other in a virtual eliminator in Dubai

Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka: Bangladesh’s team director Khaled Mahmud reacted to Dasun Shanak’s comments in which he had said that Bangladesh have a couple of world-class bowlers and they are easy opponents. He took a jibe at Sri Lanka’s skipper, saying that at least his side has two whereas the Island nation has none.

Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka: Khaled Mahmud takes a dig at Dasun Shanaka for his comments on Bangladesh

Having suffered defeats in their first two games of the Asia Cup 2022, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are set to cross swords with each other in the virtual eliminator on Thursday (1st September) in Dubai. The winner of the game will join Afghanistan and India in the Super 4s stage.

After Sri Lanka suffered a thrashing at the hands of Afghanistan in their first game, skipper Shanaka made a bold statement and targeted Bangladesh. The all-rounder claimed that the Shakib Al Hasan-led side is easier opposition to face and they only have two world-class bowlers.

Shanaka’s statement took the cricket fraternity by storm with many pundits and fans giving their take on the same. Ahead of the clash between the two, Mahmud addressed the press conference and was asked about the Sri Lankan skipper’s comments, to which he replied:

“It’s up to Dasun actually. Why he said that I don’t know. Maybe Afghanistan is a better T20 team, that’s why he said that. He said other things as well. He said that we only have two bowlers or something. I don’t see any bowlers in Sri Lanka as well. At least Bangladesh have two. That’s very good

“I think we have at least Mustafizur (Rahman) and Shakib (Al Hasan). So I don’t think they have world-class bowlers like Mustafizur and Shakib as well. It’s not about words. It’s about how you play in the game, that’s very important. Let’s see what will happen tomorrow,” Khaled Mahmud said.

Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka: Head-to-head record between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in T20Is

As Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are about to clash with each other in their second game of the Asia Cup 2022, let’s take a look at the head-to-head record between them in T20Is.

The two teams have played each other 12 times in the shortest format of the game. Sri Lanka has outplayed Bangladesh in those matches with 8 wins to their name whereas the Shakib Al Hasan-led side has only 4 victories to their name.

Going by the head-to-head record, it’s fair to say that Sri Lanka is clear favourites to win against Bangladesh to book their berth in the Super 4s stage of the tournament along with Afghanistan and India.
