Team India have been dealt with a body blow after their star batter Suryakumar Yadav was ruled of the upcoming Sri Lanka T20Is. If reports are to be believed, the right-handed batter has suffered a hairline fracture on his hand and won’t be able to get fit for the 20-over games. He attended the practice session before the series opener in Lucknow but is now deemed unfit.
As per sources, the 31-year-old sustained the injury during India’s third and final T20I against the West Indies a couple of days ago at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Due to the hassles of the bio-secure bubbles, India may not be calling up any replacements since they have the necessary replacements in the 18-member squad for the series.
Suryakumar in brilliant form of late
The exclusion of Suryakumar Yadav from the Sri Lanka T20Is may weaken the Indian batting lineup to some extent. Yadav was the leading run-scorer for the Men in Blue in the three-game series against Kieron Pollard and Co. In three matches, he scored 107 runs at an average of 53.50 and a strike rate of 194.54 with one half-century and a top score of 55.
He came in at the middle order and played some whirlwind knocks for his team. On the back of his knocks, India won the series 3-0 and also became ICC’s No.1 ranked T20I team after six years. Yadav made his debut for Team India last year against England and has made quite a bit of mark at the highest level.
Yadav came to the fore after his stupendous performance for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL). Thereafter, he was drafted into the Indian team. Yadav was also one of the players MI retained ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction held on February 12 and 13.
In the meantime, the netizens are a tad disappointed after Suryakumar Yadav won’t be a part of the Sri Lanka T20Is. The public reckoned that it’s going to be a big miss for the Men in Blue.
