He suffered an injury after the IPL 2022 and just came in time for the Asia Cup 2022. He did not have a lot of impact in the Asia Cup in Dubai, except for the dead-rubber game against Afghanistan. He had to face a lot of criticism for his strike rate in the powerplay. Fans and critics believed that he does not show any intent to take on the bowlers.
Rahul’s strike rate is 121.03, and his average is 27.33. During the same time frame, Rahul’s two top-order teammates, Virat Kohli and Rohit, have scored at strike rates of 142.49 and 138.79, respectively, which has led to speculation about Rahul’s position in the team. India, on the other hand, has no such concerns.
Right now critics and fans are raising questions about his place in the XI due to a string of low scores in the three matches. They want Rishabh pant to replace Rahul in the playing XI. However, the Indian team management, captain Rohit Sharma and Head Coach, Rahul Dravid, has come out in support of the opening batter and are backing him to deliver the goods.
In the pre-match press conference ahead of India’s T20 World Cup match against Bangladesh at the Adelaide Oval, Rahul Dravid said that he and captain Rohit Sharma have no doubts that KL Rahul will open against Bangladesh. They are aware of the impact that Rahul can have when starts to deliver.
Rahul Dravid said: “Me & Rohit don’t have absolutely no doubt who will open, I know how much impact KL Rahul can make”.
