Harshal Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal miss out as India choose to field against Pakistan
India and Pakistan will kick start their campaign against each other at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday (23rd October). Both the teams will be under tremendous pressure and the stadium has looked jam-packed with fans cheering for their respective teams.
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma drew the first blood as he won the toss and decided to bowl first. However, at the toss, he also revealed the playing XI for the Indian side. The senior opener said that have gone with a combination of seven batters, three seamers and two spinners.
In the pace-blowing department, Mohammad Shami has been given nod ahead of Harshal Patel whereas Bhuvnehwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh have retained their place. R Ashwin is also preferred over Yuzvendra Chahal whereas the batting department has familiar names.
Speaking at the toss, Rohit Sharma said: We are going to field first. Looks like a good pitch, it’s always nice to bowl with overcast conditions. Think the ball will swing around a bit, and we need to take its advantage. Preparations have been good. We played a couple of practice games in Brisbane. Time to come out and enjoy ourselves now. We were expecting nothing less than this, hopefully we’ll entertain them (the crowd). We have seven batters, three seamers and two spinners.

Rohit Sharma(c), KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik(w), Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh

You have to feel for Harshal Patel. He was leaking runs but in the last few months he was also preferred over Bhuvneshwar Kumar & Arshdeep Singh & now he has been replaced by Mohammed Shami who played T20I match for India a year ago. #INDvPAK #INDvsPAK #PakVsInd #T20WorldCup

Harshal Patel, the designated death bowler of the team for the last year misses out for someone who hasn't played any match since last WC. If last management made this decision they would've been crucified by the so called experts

Harshal Patel on a wicket with true bounce. Tough for him.
