Five Visiting Players to hit most sixes in Australia

The Indian team is getting ready to face Australia in their summer. It is always an exciting series in Australia because we get to see some high-quality cricket. Australia has always been a difficult place to score runs for the visiting batsmen. The conditions in Australia are tough with pace and bounce, and they also have the best fast bowlers in the world to trouble you. The size of the grounds is also big so hitting sixes is not an easy task when you tour down under but there are a few batsmen who have managed to hit some big ones in Australia. So, let’s have a look at the five visiting players who have hit the most sixes in Australia across formats.

5. Sanath Jayasuriya – 30 sixes

Sanath Jayasuriya changed the way how batsmen would approach the powerplay. The Sri Lankan left-hander used to take on the bowlers in the first 10-15 overs when only two fielders are allowed outside the circle. He used the pace of the bowlers to play these magical cuts and pulls which travelled all the way into the crowd.

Australian bowlers are quick and if you can use the pace of the bowler then the ball will travel as quickly as it came to you and Jayasuriya used that to his advantage. He hit 30 sixes in Australia across formats which is great for an opener. With 30 sixes to his name in Australia, he is fifth on the list.

4. Shahid Afridi – 32 sixes

Shahid Afridi was born to entertain people either on the field or off the field. He was one of those players who loved to take on the bowlers so the opposition didn’t matter to him. The Pakistan all-rounder has hit a total of 32 sixes in Australia in his career. Afridi started as a lower-order batsman so to hit so many sixes is a huge achievement for a player like Afridi who sits comfortably fourth on this list.

3. Chris Gayle – 35 sixes

Chris Gayle is hitting sixes pretty easily at the age of 41. So, at his prime, it didn’t matter whether it was a big ground or a small ground, when the Universe Boss gets it right it is going into the stands. Gayle has always been a player who doesn’t run much and believes in the big ones.

Gayle has demolished the best of bowlers at his prime so there is no doubt that he would have destroyed the Australian bowlers in Australia. Gayle has smashed 35 sixes in Australia in his career and is third on this list.

2. Viv Richards – 45 sixes

Viv Richards was always ahead of his time and he believed in dominating the bowlers rather than getting bogged down by the opposition. He used to play aggressive cricket when all the others in that era used to think about defense and trying to save their wicket.

Sir Vivian Richards hit 45 sixes in an era when hitting one six was a big thing. There is no doubt that he was one of the greatest batsmen of all time.

1. Rohit Sharma – 48 sixes

Rohit Sharma is one of those players who doesn’t get troubled by pace. In fact, he likes the pace and uses it to his advantage. In Australia, there is a lot of bounce which allows Rohit Sharma to hit his favorite shot which is the pull and the hook.

He nonchalantly deposits the short ball into the crowd and so the Australian conditions have worked in his favor. Sharma has hit a total of 48 sixes in Australia in his career so far, and he would look to make a half-century of sixes in this tour to Australia.
