Five players who have scored 4000+ runs for an IPL franchise

When the IPL started way back in 2008, most of the teams got an icon player depending on the city of the franchise. For example, Mumbai Indians got Sachin Tendulkar, Kings XI Punjab got Yuvraj Singh and Kolkata Knight Riders got Sourav Ganguly. Most of these icon players have retired from the game but there are a few players who we associate with only franchise.

Virat Kohli is now a Bangalore boy, even though MS Dhoni played for Pune he will always be the captain of CSK, and Rohit Sharma is Mumbai Indians. These players are not only associated with their franchises but have scored a lot of runs for them. In the history of the IPL, only five players have managed to score more than 4000 runs for a single IPL franchise. So, let’s have a look at the five players.

5. MS Dhoni – 4058 runs

Chennai Super Kings bought the most expensive player in the IPL Player Auction 2008 – MS Dhoni and he has been a part of their franchise since then. Dhoni is an IPL legend as he has scored 4058 runs for CSK in 155 innings at an average of 42.72 and a strike-rate of 138.64. To maintain such a high average in the middle-order is not an easy task.

Dhoni is the master of last overs as he has taken the best bowlers apart in the 20th over of the innings. MS Dhoni has said that the last game against KXIP in IPL 2020 was definitely not his last game and hence it would be fun to watch him in the next IPL season.

4. Rohit Sharma – 4060 runs

Rohit Sharma was part of Deccan Chargers for the first three seasons. In the 2011 Mega Auction, Mumbai Indians bought him and since then he is a part of the MI franchise. He became their captain midway in 2013 and has delivered five titles for them so far.

The MI captain has scored 4060 runs in 151 innings at an average of 31.47 and a strike-rate of 130.38 with 31 half-centuries and one century. He has batted at various positions as he started in the middle-order but now opens the batting. Rohit Sharma is the most successful captain in the history of the IPL.

3. AB De Villiers – 4178 runs

AB De Villiers is the only overseas player who has scored more than 4000 runs for a single IPL franchise. ABD was part of Delhi Capitals in the first three seasons but RCB bought him in the 2011 Mega Auction. His batting is just at another level as he does things that normal people can’t even think of.

In 130 innings he has scored 4178 runs at an average of 42.20 and a strike-rate of 159.47. He has 35 half-centuries and two centuries for RCB. ABD is fully committed to the RCB franchise and he might be there till he ends his IPL career.

2. Suresh Raina – 4527 runs

Suresh Raina has been a part of CSK since 2008. In the first eight years of the IPL, Raina never missed a single game for his franchise. Raina has scored 4527 runs in 160 innings at an average of 33.29 and a strike-rate of 137.39. Whatever happened in the game, Suresh Raina was their No.3 batsmen.

He always played at that position and was brilliant for CSK. CSK surely missed him in this season as they failed to qualify for the first time in the history of the IPL.

1. Virat Kohli – 5878 runs

Virat Kohli is the only player in the history of the IPL who has played for a single franchise in all 13 seasons. Kohli has been a part of the RCB team since 2008 when he was a U-19 player.

Kohli has scored 5878 runs at an average of 38.17 and a strike-rate of 130.74 with 39 half-centuries and five centuries to his name. He has been part of three IPL Finals but couldn’t win even one of them. Virat Kohli has another 5-6 years of cricket left in him and he might cross 8000 runs for a single franchise.
