Ex India player joins the coaching staff of Bangladesh cricket team till T20 World Cup 2022

Sridharan Sriram knows Australian conditions well having been involved in the Australian set-up since 2015

The former Indian spin bowling allrounder Sridharan Sriram has been named the technical consultant of Bangladesh cricket team till the end of the upcoming T20 World Cup down under. Sriram might act as the head coach of the team in the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup if Bangladesh’s current head coach Russell Domingo doesn’t travel to these two tournaments.

Sriram, who played 8 One Day Internationals for India in the early 2000s, knows the Australian conditions well as he has spent a fair bit of time with both the senior and the “A” team of Australia and has been involved in the Australian set-up as a coach and consultant since 2015 itself.

Recently, Sriram moved on from his position of spin consultant with the Australian cricket team and has now taken up the role of technical consultant with the Bangladesh team. Bangladesh’s current coach Russell Domingo is still going to be active in their coaching set-up, but it has been reported that he will only be in charge of the longer formats of the game for now, that is test cricket and 50-over cricket.

According to a report by Daily Star, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) wanted Sriram specifically for the World Cup, given his knowledge of the conditions down under, but bringing him into the set-up right before the World Cup wouldn’t have given him enough time to gel with the squad and put his message across to the Bangladesh players.

So, the former allrounder has been brought into the set-up early and will start working with the Bangladesh players ahead of the Asia Cup itself.

Bangladesh cricket team will be playing in the Asia Cup under a new captain as well

Bangladesh cricket team is also going to have a new captain for the Asia Cup, as the senior allrounder Shakib Al Hasan has been appointed the captain of the side on the place of Mahmudullah Riyad, who had led Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup last year in UAE.

Bangladesh were recently on the tour of Zimbabwe where they lost both the T20I and ODI series and the decision makers in BCB were not very happy with that. A shake-up of the coaching staff is believed to be a result of the performances on Zimbabwe tour.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
