The ICC World Test Championship series between the England cricket team and the New Zealand cricket team is in the history books. Last year when the two nations battled during the English summer, the visitors won the series. However, England took a perfect revenge this time around as they whitewashed the Blackcaps 3-0 in a three-match Test series.
Playing under new captain Ben Stokes and new coach Brendon McCullum, the English team showed great intent and won all three Test matches against the New Zealand cricket team. Even though the English team has a negligible chance of qualifying for the WTC Final, they will be happy with the performance as they gained a ton of momentum from this series.
Talking about the last match of the ICC World Test Championship series that ended earlier today at Headingley in Leeds, Jonny Bairstow smashed a quickfire half-century to help the English team win the match by seven wickets. Fans knew that the home side was the favorite to win the game heading into Day 5 of the Leeds Test.
However, there was a rain delay to start the proceedings. When the rain finally stopped, Jonny Bairstow scored 71 runs off just 44 deliveries, smacking eight fours and three sixes to help the English team win the game quickly.
Speaking with the host broadcasters after the match, New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson said:
“It’s been an incredible series really and all three matches we certainly had our opportunities and at all stages we tried getting slightly ahead of the game but credit the way the English team played when they were put under pressure they they chose to counter attack and and they certainly did that very well and no better than than this match.”
Fans on Twitter lauded England for their fearless approach
