“His Ability To Tire Out The Bowlers And Hold One End Is Highly Needed” : Sunil Gavaskar Extol Cheteshwar Pujara Over His Tremendous County Form

The Great Sunil Gavaskar has taken a deep dig into the mesmerizing batting touch of ‘Cheteshwar Pujara’ in the County Cricket. The out-of-form Pujara has to leave his spot in the Indian test team before the triumphant home series against SriLanka. The likes of Cheteshwar were so the second rate in the past that he hasn’t scored a solo ton in the test matches since the historic tour of Australia in 2018. Along with him the erstwhile deputy skipper of the Indian test team, ‘Ajinkya Rahane‘ also has to depart from the domestic circuit of the country’s cricket.

Pujara is playing for the domestic team of Sussex in the county cricket of England. In the hope of getting to the old stagnant form he has deployed himself to England in the month of April. And intriguingly in the four encounters, he displayed the glimpses of his lost batting voyage. He has hitted 4-centuries so far in the tournament, inducting the dual double tons. On the eve of Pujara’s batting glory, ‘Sunny Gavaskar’ has showered acknowledgements on him by manifesting his spesh trait of tiring out the bowlers.

While interacting in the cricket talk show ‘Sports Tak‘ he said, “Yes, it should be kept in mind (for India’s Test match in England). Just last year we saw that before the World Test Championship final, New Zealand played two Test matches in England. Because of that, they got acclimated to the conditions there, and when they got similar conditions in Southampton for the WTC final. It was raining. They were used to the condition. This is what is happening to Cheteshwar Pujara. He has gotten used to batting in English conditions, against their bowlers. Yes, there is a huge difference between a County attack and a Test bowling attack, but when a batter is in rhythm, why not take advantage and consider him”.

“It’s not like he will be making a comeback to the Test team after two to three years. It’s been a matter of six to seven months. Till September, he was on the team. He was part of the team during the Test series against New Zealand and in South Africa too. He has been on the team since January. So yes, he should definitely be considered for the XI. His ability to tire out the bowler and hold one end is highly needed. And we have seen that his strike rate is good too in County cricket.” Gavaskar Concluded.
