“It was sort of irrelevant, we are better of having our own nets” – Steve Smith reveals Australia’s decision to not play practice games in India

Australia’s tour of India consists of the Border Gavaskar Trophy series which includes four Tests. After that, the Aussies will play the three-match ODI series against the Men in Blue.

Fans from every nook and corner of the cricket fraternity are curiously waiting for the Test series as it plays a vital role in deciding the two finalists for the second cycle of the ICC World Test Championship final.

The first of the four-match Test series is slated to be played on February 9 in Nagpur. It remains to be seen which team displays all their might in an attempt to take the first lead in the series.

Steve Smith reveals Australia’s decision to not play practice games in India

Meanwhile, Australia’s best batsman, Steve Smith revealed the team’s decision to not play practice games in India during an interview with Daily Telegraph. He said that the team management made the right call to not play the tour game.

Talking about the same, Steve Smith added that the last time when they toured India, they were given a green top to prepare for the series, which Smith thought was totally irrelevant.

Steve Smith also said that it is much better if they get sufficient training in their own nets and get spin bowlers to bowl as much as possible. Smith believes this will be enough for them to pose a challenge to Team India.

Currently, Australia are on top of the ICC WTC points table whereas Team India are second on the table. It is surely going to be an enthralling contest as both top teams will be fighting a good battle in the next cycle.

When the Australian national cricket team last toured India, they surrendered at the hands of the hosts. The visitors won the first game before going on to lose the Test series by 2-1. Australia haven’t won the Test series in India since 2004.
