After India’s defeat at the hands of England in the semi-final, there have been countless questions about what went wrong with Team India. The answer is honestly multi-layered and will need a lot more than just scathing verdicts and opinions. Virender Sehwag had a possible solution to India’s top-order dilemma and the answer was Prithvi Shaw.
After KL Rahul failed to deliver in the big matches and Rohit Sharma’s stutter for a while now, the fans weren’t happy at all. Sehwag was crystal clear with his thought process of why Shaw should be an integral part of the Indian side and how he can sort out India’s opening doldrums.
Here is what Virender Sehwag had to say about Prithvi Shaw
Sehwag said, “One name that I wanted to see was Prithvi Shaw. He isn’t in the T20 team or the ODI team. He hasn’t been there in Tests for a long time. I want to see him back. But I’m hopeful that he is in the team for the 2023 World Cup.”
He further added, “Prithvi Shaw plays at 150 SR in the top order, he is suitable for T20 cricket. You could’ve at least taken him as a reserve player.” Prithvi was phenomenal in the recently concluded SMAT, hammering a handful of crucial knocks as he helped Mumbai pile up significant challenges for the oppositions.
There were speculations about him being a part of the Indian side in the New Zealand tour but then surprising everyone, he was not chosen as a part of the squad. He has previously been a part of the international arcade but his success was shortlived.
Being an aggressive opener himself, Sehwag knows the value of a batter who can get those quick runs for themselves at the top of the order, making decent use of the powerplay. Twitter nodded in unison for Shaw to be included to the Indian side for the shortest format of the sport.
Still can’t believe the BCCI hasn’t considered Prithvi Shaw for the T20s.
He’s the batter who can make full use of the power play. He has been smashing runs for fun in the SMAT but still the selectors aren’t convinced.#PrithviShaw #BCCI
