Former Deccan Chargers star Chaminda Vaas recently gave his views on the rising star of the SunRisers Hyderabad team Umran Malik. The express pace bowler from Jammu and Kashmir has earned every cricket fan’s attention with his spectacular bowling performances in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. Malik is one of the leading wicket-takers in the competition right now.
Many former cricketers have opined that Umran Malik should receive a place in the Indian cricket team, and Chaminda Vaas has joined that list of experts. He feels that if the selectors give him an opportunity to play for the Indian cricket team, he could be a great bowler for the country.
Speaking with reporters at an event, Chaminda Vaas was quoted as saying as follows by PTI:
“I think he (Umran) is getting better day by day and I saw him playing in the last IPL as well. He is bowling consistently and accuracy is important. And he will be a great bowler for India. He will be there with Bumrah, I guess if India gives him a chance. He will go a long way.”

During the same interaction, Chaminda Vaas heaped praise on the first-class structure of Indian cricket and said that the clubs have played an integral role in unearthing talents like Umran Malik. Apart from Malik, fans have seen the rise of players like Arshdeep Singh, Mohsin Khan, and Avesh Khan in the IPL this year.
Last year, Harshal Patel surprised everyone by winning the Purple Cap, and soon after, he was drafted into the Indian squad. It will be interesting to see which of the young fast bowlers make it to the Indian squad for the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
