5 Unsold Australian Players Who Could Return To IPL 2023 As Replacements

IPL 2023 will get underway this Friday with a match between defending champions Gujarat Titans and four-time IPL winners Chennai Super Kings at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. As always, there is a fantastic mix of Indian and overseas talent that will participate in the Indian Premier League this year.

Australian players have always been an important part of the IPL. However, quite a few Australian stars remained unsold at the IPL 2023 Mini Auction which happened in December last year. With the number of injuries in IPL, there is a possibility that some of the unsold Aussies may earn contracts from the franchises. Here’s a list of five such players.

1. Travis Head can join IPL 2023 as a replacement

Former Royal Challengers Bangalore star Travis Head performed excellently for Australia in their recent series against India. His batting performances were solid and may earn him a deal as a replacement for any player in the season.

2. Chris Lynn can join IPL 2023 as a replacement

Chris Lynn has done a great job for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the past. He knows the T20 format well and can bring a lot of experience to the table if signed by any team.

3. Riley Meredith

It was a little surprising to see Riley Meredith remain unsold at the auction. Meredith was with Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians in recent seasons. The fast bowler could return to the league as a replacement.

4. Sean Abbott

Sean Abbott was another player who had a great series against India recently. He was with SRH last season, but he played only one game. It will be interesting to see if any team signs the pacer as a replacement.

5. Moises Henriques

Moises Henriques is a valuable all-rounder in the T20 format. With a lot of IPL experience under his belt, Henriques can be a MVP for any franchise.
