Ravindra Jadeja gets praised for unreal all-round display but misses out on unique record

India won the first test match against Sri Lanka at Mohali with ease. The bowling unit complemented the batting heroics from Day 1 and 2. Star All-Rounder Ravindra Jadeja was at the epicenter of most of the things.

175 not out with the bat, coupled with 9/87 with the ball proved to be too much to take for Sri Lanka. With figures of 5/41 in the second innings, Jadeja became the third-ever Indian and the sixth-ever cricketer to achieve a terrific feat – register a score of 150+ and take five wickets in a test match.

Jadeja joined the likes of Vinoo Mankad, Denis Atkinson, Polly Umrigar, Gary Sobers, and Mushtaq Mohammad in the list of players to have achieved this feat.

However, Jadeja narrowly missed out on another feat. The all-rounder ended the match with figures of 9/87. He needed one more wicket to become the fifth cricketer to score 100 runs and take ten wickets in a single match.

Ian Botham, Aland Davidson, Imran Khan, and Shakib Al Hasan are the four players who have achieved this feat.

India posted 574/8 on the board as Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat. Rishabh Pant, Ravi Jadeja, and Ravi Ashwin had an outing to cherish. The trio scored 332 runs among themselves.

Sri-Lankan batsmen were dismissed for 174 runs as they fell 400 runs short of India’s first innings score. Jadeja took a fifer, with Bumrah and Ashwin bagging two wickets each. Sri Lanka’s highest run-getter was Pathum Nissanka. The youngster scored 61 runs.

Rohit Sharma then decided to force a follow-on. In the third innings, Sri Lanka got all out after scoring 178. Jadeja once again was the reason for Lanka’s downfall. His 4-for gave the Lankans no chance of a comeback. Wicket-keeper Niroshan Dickwella scored an unbeaten 51.

India beat Sri Lanka by an innings and 222 runs.
