5 Batsmen with most T20I runs against an opponent

The shortest format has seen some great batsmen take centre stage and dominate the opposition. They just seem to perform consistently and score heaps of runs every time they are well set. These world-class batsmen generally perform well against all oppositions. But there are some oppositions that just bring out the best in them. They seem to crank it up a notch and take their performance to the very next level. Here are players with the highest T20I score against a particular opposition.

1. Virat Kohli – 633* runs vs Australia

Virat Kohli is arguable one of the best batsmen in the world across all three formats. Although he doesn’t play extravagant shots in T20I cricket, he is highly impressive and effective with his traditional shots. He is the highest run-scorer in the T20I history with 2843 runs to his name from 84 T20Is.

However, he is at his best when he plays against Australia. Against the Aussies, Kohli has a staggering record of 633 runs in just 18 T20Is at a brilliant average of 57.54. His highest score against Australia was an unbeaten 90* at Adelaide in 2016. His 633 runs are the highest aggregate runs for any batsman in T20Is against any opposition.

2. Aaron Finch – 550 runs vs England

Australian skipper Aaron Finch has been absolutely fantastic in the shortest format of the game and was the No.1 ranked T20I batsman for a long time. He has done well against all oppositions but always has saved his best against England. The rivalry between Australia and England just tends to bring the best out of him.

Finch has scored 550 runs against England in just 12 T20Is at a mind-boggling average of 61.11. His best T20I score of 156 also came against England at Southampton in 2013.

3. Paul Stirling – 543 runs vs Afghanistan

Paul Stirling has been one of the finest batsmen Ireland have produced and one of the leading run-scorers among players from the associate nations. He has always been known for his attacking style of play and has troubled many bowling attacks with his quickfire knocks at the top of the order.

However, he also takes his game to the next level against Afghanistan. He has dominated spinners like Rashid Khan, Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, etc. and has scored 543 runs in just 17 T20Is at an average of 31.94. He continues to pile on the runs and is now Ireland’s vice-captain in white-ball cricket.

4. Rohit Sharma – 519 runs vs West Indies

Rohit Sharma is arguably one of the most dangerous white-ball openers in world cricket. He is the second-highest run-scorer in T20Is with 2773 runs including 4 massive centuries. He has been absolutely fantastic and consistent for India at the top of the order and has batted brilliantly against all-oppositions.

However, he is at his best when he faces the West Indies. Rohit has scored 519 runs against the West Indies from just 15 T20Is with the highest score of an unbeaten 111. He will be one of the main weapons for India if they have to win the 2021 T20 World Cup.

5. Virat Kohli – 501 runs vs West Indies

Virat Kohli again makes the list at No.5 with this time the opponent being the West Indies. He has performed well against the men from the Caribbean.

In just 12 T20Is, Kohli has scored 501 runs at a brilliant average of 62.62 and his best score in T20Is of 94* also came against the West Indies last year. It was the series against West Indies last year where Virat Kohli led with the bat and introduced the Indian team to an attacking brand of cricket, something that they will like to continue with the 2021 T20 World Cup in sight.
