“Fast bowlers went for slower deliveries,” Wasim Akram highlights the reason behind Pakistan’s loss against India in T20 World Cup 2022

Pakistan suffered a 5-wicket loss against India at MCG.

Former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram has highlighted the reason behind Pakistan’s loss in the T20 World Cup 2022. He feels that their fast bowlers missed the trick as they went out of the box and bowled slower deliveries instead of bowling hard lengths.

“Misbah was sitting beside me and he was almost pulling up his hair,” Wasim Akram on Pakistani pacers strategy

It was a high-octane clash between India and Pakistan that saw players of both teams fighting till the very end and giving their best. After Pakistan posted a total of 159 runs on the board, they started pretty well with the ball and put India under tremendous pressure.

Their pacer battery produced a magnificent effort to leave India tottering at 31/4 and at the moment it almost seemed that they would bag an easy win. They albeit kept the run rate in check and bowled tight overs but failed to take wickets as Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya held their nerves well and batted wonderfully.

However as Virat and Hardik were on the charge, Pakistan pacers adopted the strategy of bowling slowers, which cost them as both the batters smashed them. They then succumbed to pressure as Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya took them to the cleaners and played wonderful knocks to bag the match by 5 wickets.

Speaking to ASports, Wasim Akram talked about Pakistan’s loss. He said that Misbah Ul Haq, who was around him at that time pulled his hair in frustration. He added:

“Absolutely. Misbah was sitting beside me and he was almost pulling up his hair. He knows as a batsman, Shoaib was also sitting there. I know that the earlier balls seemed difficult. If the batsman hits that ball, it would go to the fielder,”

“Haris had all the experience,” Wasim Akram unhappy with the pacer bowling slower balls in the end

Wasim Akram was unhappy with Pakistani pacers bowling slower balls in the pressure situation. Adding to his earlier point, he said:

“Haris had all the experience. But when there was pressure on Pakistan as well as India in the 16th over to 19th over, both the fast bowlers went for slower deliveries. Instead of trying back of length to the Indian batsman, which was troubling both of them, they tried 11 slower ones during that period. When you aim to take wickets, you can’t rely too much on slower ones. Both the sixes by Virat Kohli were hit on slower balls,”

After the loss against India, Pakistan suffered another disappointing loss as they were thumped by Zimbabwe by 1 run and their chances of qualifying are almost dented.
