When it comes to foreign captains, compared to the other nations, the Australians have enjoyed a better time in the tournament. So far, there have been quite a few cases of a Aussies skippering more than one IPL squad, as well. On that note, here, we take a look at five Australian players who have captained more than one team in IPL history.

1) Adam Gilchrist (Deccan Chargers and Kings XI Punjab)

Adam Gilchrist is one of the Australian players who have captained more than one team in IPL history. The former Australian keeper is the first from his nation to become the captain of two IPL units.

In 2009, Gilly took Deccan Chargers all the way to the trophy, thanks to his brilliant captaincy. Later on, Kings XI Punjab, in search of a trophy, appointed him as the skipper and built their squad around him. Under Gilchrist, KXIP did play good cricket but failed to make it to the summit position.

2) David Warner (Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals)

Warner is one of the most successful captains in the history of IPL. Despite not having a star-studded squad, he led SRH to a victory in 2016.

Before that, Warner had a chance to lead Delhi in two games. For IPL 2023, in the absence of Rishabh Pant, Warner will lead the franchise. The fans will hope that the Aussie does well to give the team its first IPL trophy.

3) Steve Smith (Pune Warriors, Rajasthan Royals and Rising Pune Supergiants)

Steve Smith is also one of the Australian players who have captained more than one team in IPL history. In fact, the cricketer had the opportunity to captain three different IPL teams.

At Pune Warriors, Smith was the captain for one game. In RPS, he got the opportunity despite MS Dhoni being present in the squad. Smith did well to take the team to the finals. However, it was at RR that Smith had a longer stint, captaining the team 27 times.

4) Shane Watson (Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore)

In 2017, in the absence of Virat Kohli, Shane Watson was the skipper of RCB. The franchise won one game and lost two under the all-rounder’s leadership.

Back at RR, Watto had captained the team for 21 encounters. It was a poor stint as the team won just 7 games. Later on, the franchise had to move on from Watson.

5) Cameron White (Deccan Chargers and Sunrisers Hyderabad)

Cameron White is also one of the Australian players who have captained more than one team in IPL history. Yes, the two franchises were based out of the same city but they belong to two different ownerships.

While White captained Deccan Chargers in 4 games, he was the captain of SRH for 8 matches. Back then, White was an experienced player in the T20 format and hence, he got the chance. However, he could not make much use of it and eventually failed to get an IPL contract, as well.
