4 Players who have scored an IPL century against Mumbai Indians

The Mumbai Indians over the years have come to be one of the most dominant franchises in the history of the Indian Premier League. And, thanks to the excellent bowling lineup that they have had, not many batsmen have been able to score a century against them in the IPL. So, here’s a look at the 4 batsmen who have managed to score a century against Mumbai Indians in IPL.

1. Hashim Amla

Probably one of the finest batsmen to have graced the sport of cricket ever, Hashim Amla is one of the 4 players to have scored a century in IPL, against the Mumbai Indians. It was the 20th of April 2017, when Indore saw a run-fest unfold on its soil, as both the batters of both the teams exploded, among whom was this gentleman, Hashim Amla.

Batting in the first inning of the match, Amla scored 104 runs off 60 deliveries, helping his team to a total of 198 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. But it turned out to be too small a total for the MI batsmen to chase as they clinched the match by 8 wickets, marring the celebrations which would have otherwise gone on in the KXIP camp.

2. Ben Stokes

The most recent entrant in the list of batsmen to have scored a century against Mumbai Indians, Ben Stokes, on the 25th of October 2020, exploded on the ground of Sharjah to demolish the MI bowlers and lead his team to an 8 wicket win over the team.

Chasing a total of 196 runs set by Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan sent in Ben Stokes to open the batting, and he did not let anyone in the team down. After getting his eyes set, Stokes left alone no bad delivery as he smashed the entire MI bowling line-up all over the park, en-route to his score of 107 runs not out off 60 deliveries. This knock of Stokes helped his team reach the relatively steep total with 8 wickets in hand and 10 balls to spare.

3. Adam Gilchrist

Scripting one of the most dominant wins over the Mumbai Indians in the history of IPL, Adam Gilchrist when he exploded on the MI bowlers in the inaugural edition of IPL, became the first batsman to register a century against the now 5-time IPL Champions. After his team’s bowlers did their share of work in the first inning of the game, dismissing the star-studded MI batting lineup for 154 runs, it was Gilchrist and the Deccan Chargers batting lineup to do their part.

But Gilchrist did not let any load off his shoulders as he single-handedly won the game for his team, scoring 109 runs off 47 balls as his opening partner, VVS Laxman stood there on the other, enjoying the batting display, himself scoring 37 runs. Deccan Chargers went on to win the game by a huge margin of 10 wickets.

4. AB de Villiers

Showing why he is called ‘Mr 360’ and regarded as one of the best batsmen to have played in IPL, AB de Villiers, while batting against the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2015, came along with a match-winning century for his team the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

ABD’s team was batting first in that match, and after they lost their opener, Chris Gayle early in the inning, it was de Villiers’ turn to come on to bat. And, to bat that day he did, in the best way that he would have wanted. He played a memorable knock of 133 runs off 59 balls, helping his team score 235 runs. The RCB bowlers handled the rest of the proceedings as they won the game by a margin of 39 runs.
