3 players whom Mumbai Indians might mostly use as ‘Impact Substitution’

Mumbai Indians have had a tough run in the last two seasons. They failed to qualify for the playoffs in both the campaigns. That said, the core of the team is now taking shape and we can expect MI to return to its best from IPL 2023. It will be interesting to see how the franchise will make use of the ‘Impact Player’ rule. On that note, here, we take a look at three players whom Mumbai Indians might mostly use as ‘Impact Substitution’.

1) Kumar Kartikeya

Kumar Kartikeya was one of the finds of the season for MI in IPL 2022. He delivered for the franchise in the spin department and Mumbai Indians also started to win a few games.

Kartikeya will be the lead spinner for MI in IPL 2023. However, since he does not offer a lot of batting skills, he could be replaced by a batter if MI has finished bowling in the first innings. In the alternate scenario, Kumar could come into the XI in the second innings.

2) Arshad Khan

Arshad Khan is one of the players whom Mumbai Indians might mostly use as ‘Impact Substitution’. There are a lot of expectations from Arshad Khan from the fans of MI. Despite missing last season due to injury, the franchise has retained the player.

Arshad is in good form right now and would add variety to the team. He is majorly a left-handed seamer, although he has the skills to hit a few big shots. Therefore, he could be used by MI as a part of this new tactic.

3) Vishnu Vinod

Kerala wicketkeeper batter Vishnu Vinod will be Ishan Kishan’s backup for MI in IPL 2023. Alternatively, he would also be the reserve domestic batting option for the franchise.

Since Vishnu can both bat as an opener and in the middle order, he can be used by MI when there is a quick fall of wickets. Of course, he could start straightaway in the playing XI if MI is batting first and could then be replaced by a bowler in the second innings.
