Scoring a century in the shortest format of the game isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. However, some players have gone on to breach the barriers and composed a well-constructed century with fearless batting displays.
It is not that easy to score a hundred in T20Is as it demands a presence of mind, a truckload of concentration, sheer willpower and focus and these are the factors that help the batsman defy the odds in the game.
The South African cricket fraternity is indeed blessed to have witnessed three players scoring the fastest T20I century for the national cricket team. Let’s take a look at all three players below.
1. David Miller
David Miller comes first on this list as he scored the fastest century for South Africa in the shortest format of the game. Popularly known as “Killer Miller”, the ferocious southpaw accomplished the feat against Bangladesh.
In the second T20I against the Tigers at Potchefstroom, David Miller unleashed his true colours by smashing a century off just 35 balls. He ended up scoring an unbeaten 101 off 36 balls including 7 fours and 9 sixes.
2. Quinton de Kock
Quinton de Kock is the second-fastest player to score a T20I century for South Africa. The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman unleashed his storm by chipping in with a match-winning 43-ball ton against the West Indies in 2023.
He constructed his innings with the help of nine boundaries and eight maximums. His powerful knock helped South Africa chase down a record 259-run target set by West Indies at Supersport Park in Centurion.
3. Richard Levi
Richard Levi comes third on the list as he scored the third-fastest T20I century for South Africa. During South Africa’s tour of New Zealand in 2012, Richard Levi scored the best knock of his T20I career.
He made a bold statement with the bat as an opener by scoring his maiden T20I century off just 45 balls. He constructed his innings with the help of five boundaries and 13 sixes.
