3 players who might replace Ravindra Jadeja at CSK

As per reports, Ravindra Jadeja and Chennai Super Kings’ relationship is currently off-track. There have been claims that this can lead to both the parties parting ways before IPL 2023. While there would be a slew of teams who would be interested in Jadeja’s services, the franchise might find it difficult to replace the veteran. On that note, here, we look at three players who might replace Ravindra Jadeja at CSK.

1) Ben Stokes

With his decision of retiring from ODIs, Ben Stokes has made it clear that he will take part in T20 leagues in the future. He missed IPL in 2022 but is likely to return to action next season. The kind of cricketer that he is, there would be multiple suitors for the Englishman.

By releasing Jadeja, CSK would add INR 16 crores to its kitty. Hence, it could exert a monopoly on the next auctions. Stokes may not be a like-to-like replacement but CSK’s best bet to fill Jaddu’s void would be by signing Stokes. The overseas quota would be disturbed but CSK might have to make necessary domestic signings then. Stokes’ best position in a T20 XI is in the top order but he can be employed as a finisher in a domestic league. Of course, he gives a few overs of medium-pace, which will render depth to the squad.

2) Shakib Al Hasan

Shakib Al Hasan is one of the players who might replace Ravindra Jadeja at CSK. The Bangladesh cricketer did not find a contract in IPL last season but should be available next year.

Mitchell Santner has been unable to make an impact at CSK. The franchise could invest in Shakib, who would be an upgrade over the Kiwi. The only concern is that Shakib’s batting skills are best utilized in the top order, which is currently occupied at CSK. If the franchise can accommodate Shakib in there, they will be in for a real deal.

3) Shubhang Hegde

The youngster from Karnataka has been with the Royal Challengers Bangalore for a while now as a net bowler. Although he was not with the franchise in IPL 2022, Shubhang has been working on himself to develop into a fine all-rounder.

In the ongoing KSCA Maharaja T20 Trophy, the player has been in good touch. At the moment, he is the highest wicket-taker and has also frequently contributed with the willow. Yes, he is still inexperienced but the player has the potential that can be tapped to reap rewards in the future.
