Michael Clarke is one of the most stylish batters that Australia has seen. After the likes of Ricky Ponting were approaching the end of their careers, there were issues for Australia on who would take the baton forward. Michael Clarke stepped up both with the bat and as a skipper. Even while he was playing under Ponting, Clarke had already shown his exquisite technique and skills. On that note, here, we take a look at two world records of Michael Clarke which might never be broken.
1) Highest Test score at No.5 – 329*
India was all out for 191 at Sydney and later Australia was reduced to 37-3. However, Michael Clarke had a great outing as he took the Indian bowlers to the cleaners. He scored a top-class triple-century while batting at No.5.
In this era, it would be very hard to break this record. Bowlers in Test cricket are ruthless and it takes extreme concentration for the batters to survive. Moreover, at No.5, players are now expected to take more risks and unless a situation arises and a player performs, Clarke’s record is safe for the moment.
2) Most double centuries in a calendar year – 4 in 2012
Scoring the most double centuries in a single year is one of the world records of Michael Clarke which might never be broken. It is a massive feat to score a double hundred and to that consistently is a different level altogether. The former Australian skipper did it four times in 2012. He scored 1595 runs that year.
Virat Kohli came close to equalling this record twice. However, he remained at 3 centuries. Since a team does not get to play a lot of Tests every year, this seems a difficult task for any batter. With the WTC in the picture, the nature of the challenge is different for every series. In this context, it is hard for a batter to beat this feat by Clarke.
